BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team finished off a three-game weekend sweep of Elmhurst with two wins on Saturday, May 3, at Jack Horenberger Field by scores of 17-7 and 10-0.

The Titans improved to 21-16 overall and finished with a 14-7 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays fell to 15-22 overall and 9-12 in the CCIW.

The wins, coupled with two North Park losses to Wheaton, give IWU the No. 2 seed in the CCIW tournament Thursday at Rock Island. IWU will play No. 3 North Park (23-15, 13-8 CCIW) while the No. 1 seed and conference champion Augustana (27-10, 15-6 CCIW) will host No. 4 North Central (24-13, 12-9 CCIW). Game times will be announced early next week.

Illinois Wesleyan got 32 hits in the sweep. Junior first baseman Nick Hahn led a 17-hit attack in the first game, which lasted seven innings. Hahn went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Sophomore Matthew Mardis drove in four runs, while senior Jon Frericks, junior Tim Coonan and Jake Capko each had three hits for the Titans.

Senior Bobby Czarnowski clubbed a two-run homer across Franklin Avenue in rightfield in the first inning as IWU took a 4-0 lead. Junior righthander Matt Hart (6-1) went five innings, allowing seven earned runs while walking one and striking out seven.

Frericks and Coonan each had three hits in the second game, with Coonan and Mardis driving in two runs apiece.

Junior righthander John Munyon (2-1), the first of five Titans pitchers, got the win by allowing one hit in four innings and striking out five. It was the Bluejays' only hit of the game.
