McMINNVILLE, Ore. - With all runs scored in the seventh and eighth innings, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team lost a 2-1 decision to Cal Lutheran in the opening round of the NCAA Division III regional in McMinnville, Ore., on Wednesday, May 14.
The regional's No. 5-seeded Titans are now 24-19 and will play No. 6-seed LeTourneau (31-14) at 12 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday, May 15. The YellowJackets, of Longview, Texas and making their first ever NCAA playoff appearance, lost 1-0 in the first round to regional host, No. 1 seed and defending champion Linfield.
Cal Lutheran improved to 35-8 but the team hitting .343 was limited to six hits against the Titans and senior starter
Jeff Johnson (6-3).
Johnson went 7 1/3 innings and allowed the six hits with two runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out three.
Dan Truesdale worked the final two out.
All-American pitcher Jake Petersen allowed four hits in eight innings while walking three and striking out six. Aaron Roth picked up his 12th save of the season and struck out two in the ninth.

Adam Glogovsky led off with a double down the leftfield line, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman second baseman
Jarrod Juskiewicz and scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher freshman catcher
Pat Mollo.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Kingsmen tied the score at 1-1 as Davey Casciola was hit by pitch and was forced at second on a grounder by Gabe Gunter. Pinch hitter Kyle Sanchez reached on an error by Juskiewicz and Gunter advanced to second. Spencer DuBois singled to left field, scoring Gunter with the unearned run.
The Kingsmen scored the winning run in the eighth as Nicho DellaValle walked and went to third on a single by Petersen. DellaValle was out trying to steal home on a botched squeeze by Ramsey Abushahla, who then delivered a double to left field that chased home Petersen with what proved to be the game-winner.
