Titan Softball Hosts Warhawks in Super Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan looks to add to its school-record 40 win total as the Titans host Wisconsin-Whitewater in the NCAA Division III Super Regional at 4 p.m. Friday (May 16) at IWU Field. The best two-of-three event will continue on Saturday at 1 p.m. with possibly two games.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $4 for seniors (62 and over) and students, and $2 for children under 11 years old. All tickets are general admission and no season passes or other special passes will be accepted.

Illinois Wesleyan is 40-5, has won a school-record 21 straight games and is 19-1 at home this season. Historically, IWU teams now have a 26-24 national tournament record (.520 winning percentage) in their 13th NCAA appearance.

As a team, IWU has set a school record this year with 83 doubles and has 33 home runs, tied for the most in a single season with the 2007 team. The 224 runs batted in is fourth most in a single season. IWU pitchers have combined for a school season record 363 strikeouts, distancing the second place 338 in 2010.

The Titans have a 17-6 lead in the series in softball against the Warhawks, including a pair of wins in Bloomington on April 16. IWU won the first game, 3-0, and took the second game by a 10-2 score.

After losing the first game of the Chicago Regional last weekend, Wis.-Whitewater improved to 35-10 this year as the Warhawks reeled off four straight wins to earn the trip to the Super Regional, topping Chicago 4-0, Thomas More 4-2 and Benedictine twice on Sunday by scores of 7-5 and 5-2. Second baseman Kelly McGrail was chosen as the Chicago Regional's "Most Outstanding Player" and she was joined on the all-tournament team by first baseman Morgan Krisch, outfielder Samie Seamon and pitcher Kalynn Sporer.

Krisch is hitting .411 this season with team-highs of 13 home runs and 41 runs batted in while centerfielder and leadoff hitter Mimi Ramirez is batting .390 with 11 stolen bases in 11 attempts. Seamon has a .389 batting average with five doubles, two triples and 10 home runs and designated hitter Amy Ricci has also driven home 41 runs.
In the circle, Bekka Houda is 16-5 with a 2.78 earned run average and has struck out 125 enemy hitters in 128 1/3 innings while Sporer is 15-5 with a 2.30 ERA.

The eight-team national finals, hosted by Texas-Tyler, will be held May 22-27 at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas. The winners of the eight Super Regionals next weekend would be re-seeded prior to the finals.
