Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Despite leading 4-2 after seven innings, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team fell to North Central, 5-4, in 11 innings on Friday (April 18) at Horenberger Field in the series-opening match.
The Titans drop to 16-11 overall and 10-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while the Cardinals jump to 15-10 overall and 7-6 in the league.
The Titans put up three runs with two outs in the second inning.
Nick Hahn, who had reached on a fielder's choice, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by freshman second baseman
Jarrod Juskiewicz. Third baseman
Matthew Mardis' doubled to deep center field to score Juskiewicz and then Mardis scored when the centerfielder misplayed a ball hit by
Adam Glogovsky.
In the seventh, IWU went ahead 4-2 when Glogovsky doubled down the right field line to run in Juskiewicz, who was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning.
North Central tied the game, 4-4, in the eighth scoring off a walk and wild pitch, and the Cardinals scored the winning run in the 11th on an IWU error.
IWU's second pitcher,
John Munyon (1-1), got the loss, allowing only one unearned run on one hit with six strikeouts. Starting pitcher
Jeff Johnson went seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits with four walks and struck out 11.
