BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team won by scores of 8-4 and 11-8 over Augustana at Horenberger Field on Saturday, April 12, to solidify its lead in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings.

The Titans improved to 16-8 overall and 10-1 in the conference while the Vikings slipped to 15-8 on the season and 7-4 in the CCIW.

In game one, IWU spotted the Vikings two runs in the first before scoring four on only two hits with four walks in the last of the first when two were out. Freshman catcher Pat Mollo had a home run and three RBI in the game and senior leftfielder Bobby Czarnowski had two of the Titans' seven hits.

Senior starter Jeff Johnson (4-1) worked seven innings and allowed four runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Dan Truesdale went the final two frames to earn the save.

In game two, the Titans trailed 7-0 heading into the last of the fifth when they scored three runs. IWU added five runs in the seventh to grab an 8-7 lead and scored three with two outs in the last of the eighth with a two-run homer coming from shortstop Derek Idstein and a tape-measure home run to the TKE front yard from Czarnowski.

Czarnowski, junior rightfielder Tim Coonan, senior centerfielder Jon Frericks, and sophomore designated hitter Adam Glogovsky each had two hits in the IWU 13-hit attack and Glogovsky also had a homer.

Junior John Munyon (1-0) had a rare blown save in the eighth, but worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the win.
