KENOSHA, Wis. - Illinois Wesleyan's baseball team exploded for 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Carthage on Sunday, March 30, in Kenosha, Wis. The Titans won by scores of 11-3 and 13-10.

The two wins got the Titans over the .500 mark for the season at 8-7 and to 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Carthage is now 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the league.

IWU had 15 hits in game one as junior centerfielder Tim Coonan and junior shortstop Derek Idstein each had three while seniors Bobby Czarnowski and Jon Frericks and junior Nick Hahn each had two. Idstein, Czarnowski and freshman second baseman Jarrod Juskiewicz all powered home runs and Czarnowski had four runs batted in.

Junior Matt Hart (3-0) went seven innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Junior Dan Truesdale worked the final two scoreless innings.

The Titans put an 11 on the scoreboard in the third inning of game two and it turned out IWU needed nearly all of those runs to close out the Red Men. The big blow in the third was a grand slam home run by Hahn, who finished with four hits and five RBI. Idstein, Frericks and freshman catcher Pat Mollo each had two hits and two RBI in the game.

In relief of starter Robert Romano and two ineffective relievers, freshman Jonathan Vlk (1-0) was awarded the pitching victory as he threw two scoreless innings and allowed only one hit. Junior John Munyon struck out the side in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
