Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning to post a 4-2 win over Carthage to open the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin season on Saturday, March 29, at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis.
The Titans are 6-7 overall, 1-0 CCIW, while Carthage slipped to 6-6 and 0-1 in the CCIW. The two teams were to have played a doubleheader Saturday but will now play a pair of games to finish the three-game series beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 30.
IWU scored a run in the third inning on three singles and a
Jon Frericks single to rightfield. The Titans led 2-0 with a run in the eighth as junior centerfielder
Tim Coonan led off with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI-single by senior leftfielder
Bobby Czarnowski.
The Red Men tied the game, 2-2, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Mike Gentile doubled home two unearned runs.
With two outs In the 10th inning, Frericks reached base on a throwing error by the Carthage shortstop and went to third on a double by freshman catcher
Pat Mollo. Both runners scored when junior first baseman
Nick Hahn hit a ball that wasn't fielded cleanly by the Carthage third baseman Zach Wade.

Jeff Johnson (2-1) went all 10 innings, striking out seven and holding the Red Men to the two unearned runs on five hits with five walks. Jeremy Salzman (1-1), the third-of-three Carthage hurlers, took the loss.
