IWU Men Lose CCIW Title Game to Wheaton by 21

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team lost by an 87-66 score to Wheaton in the championship game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament at the Shirk Center on Saturday, March 1.

The Titans are 23-4 while the Thunder receive the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament with the win, improving to 20-7.

Wheaton dominated the boards, collecting 34 rebounds to 19 for the Titans. The Titans committed seven turnovers to nine for Wheaton.

Wheaton led the entire game (with four early ties) and held a 16-15 advantage with 11:51 to go in the first half. The Thunder went on a 7-0 run to lead 23-15 with 10:07 remaining and built up a 21 point lead by halftime at 48-27. The Thunder shot .692 from the field in the first half.

Wheaton's largest lead was 22 at 53-31 with 18:38 to go. The Titans got as close as 13 at 67-54 with 5:30 remaining but never closer.
