Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team advanced to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title match by netting a 2-0 win over Augustana on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
IWU improved to 14-5-1 with the win while the visiting Vikings drop to 12-5-2. The win total of 14 is tied for the fifth most in single season history for the Titans, having last notched 14 or more wins in a single season during the 2011 campaign.
Both Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana were playing in the CCIW tournament for the 13th consecutive year (since the tourney began in 2002).
After a scoreless first half, the Titans broke through in the 60th minute (59:01) with senior
Brie Siebert's fourth goal of the season with senior
Emily Johnson getting credited with the assist. IWU would add an insurance goal at the 73:39 mark coming from junior
Sydney Fox to take a 2-0 lead, which would hold for the final score. Senior
Tess Bottorff had a brilliant assist on Fox's goal.
The Titans held a 12-3 advantage in shots over the Vikings, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper
Dana Jourdan posted her sixth shutout of the year, including her second shutout against Augustana. Jourdan has 14 wins at goalkeeper this season, tied for fourth most in a single season at IWU.
What's Next?IWU will play in the CCIW tournament championship match at Wheaton at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III postseason tournament.
It will be the seventh time IWU and Wheaton have met in the conference tourney final with Wheaton holding a 4-0-2 lead (se below for history). The Titans last played in the CCIW championship match in 2011, tying Wheaton but falling in penalty kicks, and claimed their only tournament title in 2010.
