ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A strong first half performance by the Augustana men's basketball team kept the Illinois Wesleyan Titans from defeating the Vikings, 81-73, despite final-minute efforts Wednesday, Jan. 8, evening at the Roy J. Carver Center.
 
The Titans now sit at 11-2 and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while Augie is 12-1, 2-0.
 
The Vikings went on a 21-1 run in middle of the first half, stealing away a 19-12 Titan lead with 11:16 remaining and going ahead 34-20 with 7:48 to play. The halftime score had Augustana leading 46-34.
 
Although Illinois Wesleyan outscored the Vikings, 39-35, in the second half, the Titans were unable to overcome despite last minute efforts. Augustana held a 33-31 rebound advantage and IWU was guilty of 14 turnovers to 11 for the Vikings.
 
"We have to learn from our mistakes and move on," IWU head coach 
Ron Rose said in a postgame radio interview with WJBC's Eric Stock. "We knew it was going to be a tough game. I'm disappointed in the way we played and the opportunities we gave up, but the season is a journey and we have a group of very competitive guys."
