SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team battled through two overtimes, resulting in a 1-1 tie against University of Redlands at the "Slugfest Tournament" hosted by the University of California-Santa Cruz on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The first half was a busy one for both the Titans (2-0-1) and Bulldogs (0-2-1), as Redlands was the first to reach the back of the net. Defender Amy Pumputis scored the first goal in the 16th minute, after a corner kick-header connection between her and Redlands' Cassie Lively, putting the score at 1-0.

However, the Titans responded near the 40th minute, also off a corner kick, when freshman Syler Tomko knocked one in to even out the score, 1-1.

Twenty total shots were attemped in the second half, but no balls were able to get past the goalkeepers, carrying the game into overtime. IWU keeper Zoie Samaan made six saves in 110 minutes.

Both defenses remained strong heading into the second overtime, resulting the match in a 1-1 draw.

The Titans will continue at the Slugfest Tournament tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 8) against the host school University of California-Santa Cruz at 10 a.m. (PST).
