BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan split a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Barker Chevrolet Classic II at the Shirk Center, downing Monmouth in four sets and falling to Cornell College in four sets.

The Titans (7-6 overall record) beat Monmouth College by scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-23 in the afternoon match to snap a four-game losing streak, then lost to Cornell College, 25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 12-25, on Friday night.

"Tonight was a little bit of a roller coaster for us," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "We need to learn to maintain our level of intensity and focus throughout an entire match.  We also need to maintain our discipline from beginning to the end."

Illinois Wesleyan will meet Lincoln Christian at 10 a.m. and Carthage at 2 p.m. on Saturday, day two of the Barker Classic II. The match against Carthage does not count as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meeting - that will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Kenosha, Wis.
