Titans Improve to 3-1-1 With Soccer Win

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Sophomore Jimmy Connolly and junior Patrick Dowd each scored their first college goals in a 30 second span near the end of the first half and the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team got a 4-1 win at Monmouth on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The win gives IWU a 3-1-1 record as Monmouth remained winless at 0-4-1.

Connolly's first goal, on an assist from sophomore Drake Leary, came at 44:10 and Dowd's goal came at 44:40 on a header with assists to Connolly and junior Oscar Chavarria.

The Titans went ahead 3-0 on a goal by John Pisani at 64:01 with assists to LaLonde and senior Adam Flaugher before Monmouth struck for the first time on a goal by Chizobam Nkemeh at 67:58.

IWU senior captain Angelo Catalano took a pass from Flaugher and scored the final goal of the match at 75:18 to provide the 4-1 advantage.

Senior keeper Andrew Reed made two saves in the victory. Illinois Wesleyan outshot Monmouth, 25-3, with 17 shots on goal. IWU had none corner kicks to none for the Scots.

Illinois Wesleyan plays at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Dubuque.
