ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team opened its season with a win over Olivet College, 3-1, before losing to Lake Forest, 3-0, at the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday, August 30.
IWU beat the Comets by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21 and lost to Lake Forest 23-25, 12-25, 25-27.
"As with any young team, we will experience some highs and lows," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "Right now we are working through those moments and we know that with some more time together on the court, we will see fewer errors."
In the win over Olivet,
Morgan Howard led IWU with 11 kills while
Cydnee Mann added 10. Senior
Erin Wachtel provided 40 set assists with 13 digs. Freshman
Loryn Bruer led the team with 17 digs.
In the loss to Lake Forest, junior
Maddie Greybar had seven kills while Howard added six. Wachtel made 26 assists and had six digs while Bruer again led the team with nine digs.
The Titans (1-1) play Adrian at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Elmhurst.
