CHICAGO, Ill. - Behind a complete game eight-hitter from senior
Nick Mehn, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team earned a split in a scheduled doubleheader at North Park on Saturday (May 4). IWU won 3-0 after losing 5-4 as the Vikings plated a run with two outs in the ninth inning.
Illinois Wesleyan is 29-9 overall and finish as regular season champions with a record of 18-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while North Park is 20-19, 12-9 CCIW. Both games on Saturday were scheduled as seven-inning contests to accommodate any potential bad weather.
Game One
♦ The Titans scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore
Tim Coonan led off with a double, followed by a single by senior
Zach Scott and a walk to senior
Kevin Callahan.
Nick Hahn's sacrifice fly drove home Coonan and a double by junior
Jon Frericks, who had three hits in the game, sent home Scott. A single by senior catcher
A.J. Nathan drove home Callahan and Frericks.

Dan Truesdale (1-1) was the losing pitcher. Starter
Jeff Johnson went 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Game Two
♦ The Titans scored all three of their runs after two were out in the fourth inning. Frericks reached on an error by the second baseman and went to third on a single by junior
Johnathan Erickson. Junior
Bobby Czarnowski's single to left scored Frericks and Nathan hit a single to right that brought in Erickson. Czarnowski ended the scoring, coming in on a wild pitch.
♦ Mehn (5-1) struck out eight and walked none with the shutout, his second of the year, and complete game, also his second of the season.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan will host Concordia Chicago at 6 p.m. Monday (May 6) at Horenberger Field. The Titans will also serve as hosts of the CCIW tournament Thursday through Saturday next week.
