Titans Lose 2-1 in CCIW Tourney to Vikings

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team slipped into the losers' bracket of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament with a 2-1 loss to Augustana on Friday (May 10) at Horenberger Field.

IWU (30-11) will play North Park (21-20) at 12 p.m. Saturday and Augustana (31-8) will meet the winner of that game at 3 p.m. at Horenberger. North Park eliminated Wheaton, 3-2, earlier Friday.

Augustana scored single runs in the first and fifth innings and made them stand up. The Titans' only scoring was in the third. With one out, senior second baseman Anthony Lopez doubled down the lefttfield line and went to third when senior Matt Workman singled to rightfield. Lopez came home when senior Zach Scott hit into a fielder's choice, narrowly escaping a double play..

Scott, Lopez and Workman each had two hits for Illinois Wesleyan.

Titan senior Nick Mehn (5-2) was the losing pitcher, throwing a complete game and striking out seven while allowing seven hits and two runs. Chris Sauer (2-0) got the win for the Vikings, going eight innings and scattering eight hits with three strikeouts. Rick erickson worked the ninth for his ninth save.
