BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 2-1 over Elmhurst at IWU Field on Sunday (April 7). In game one, the Titans scored the winning run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 16-5 overall and 3-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays fell to 13-7 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Game One
♦ The Bluejays opened the scoring with a run in the fifth on an infield hit and a triple. The Titans answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Sara Daley led off with a walk and pinch runner Katie Bruins went to second on a sacrifice by Chloe Montgomery. Senior shortstop Courtney Martin then drove home Bruins with a single up the middle.

♦ Daley led off the seventh with a walk and was run for by junior Erin Sweeney, who went to second on a sacrifice by Jessica Toth. With one out, Sweeney went to third on a wild pitch and scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.

♦ Junior Molly McCready (7-2) got the pitching win, allowing five hits and striking out seven. Tiffany Potthast (7-5) allowed three hits in the loss.

Game Two
♦ Illinois Wesleyan got on the board with one in the first. With one out, sophomore Audra James singled and stole second ahead of a walk to senior Keri Leach. Junior Allie Riordan lifted a flyball to rightfield that was not handled but Elmhurst was able to force Leach, who had to hold up to see if the ball would be caught. James was able to round third and score on the 190-foot fielder's choice.

♦ After the Jays tied the game in the fourth, IWU scored the eventual winning run in the fifth. With one out, Leach reached on an error and went to second on a mishandled throw back into the infield after Riordan lined out to left. Senior Emma Clark, who finished with three of the seven IWU hits, doubled to score Leach.

♦ Senior Alyssa Vorel (5-1) got the pitching victory as she allowed four hits, walked two and struck out one. She induced 14 ground outs.
