NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team improved to 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after a 7-6, 10-inning win at North Central on Sunday (April 7).
The Cardinals slip to 10-11 overall and 3-5 in the CCIW.
♦ The Titans trailed 3-0 after three innings before scoring two in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. IWU led 6-4 before surrendering a run in the eighth and another in the bottom of the ninth to force a 6-6 game into extra innings.
♦ With one out in the tenth inning, senior
Zach Scott drew a walk and went to second on a passed ball during an at-bat where
Matt Workman struck out. Sophomore
Tim Coonan, who was 0-for-5 coming into his last at-bat, delivered the single to drive home Scott for the game-winner.
♦ Seniors
A.J. Nathan, Workman and
Anthony Lopez all had three-hit days for the Titans, who banged out 14 hits on the day, including 12 singles. Nathan also had two runs batted in.
♦ Titan pitchers were tagged for 16 total hits. Senior starter
Nick Mehn went seven innings and allowed 12 hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Sophomore
John Munyon improved to 4-1 as he went the final three frames, allowing two earned runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to host Knox in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. Tuesday (April 9) at Horenberger Field.
