NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan pitchers provided 13 walks, four hit batsmen, and five wild pitches, along with 13 hits, allowing for a 15-5 win by Division I Illinois State in the annual Horenberger/Bass Classic at Duffy Bass Field on Tuesday (April 30).

The Titans slip to 26-8 overall and the Redbirds improved to 28-16 with their ninth straight win.

♦ IWU scored first on a two-run opposite field home run by senior Kevin Callahan in the first inning, bringing in senior Zach Scott, who had walked.

♦ The Redbirds plated six in the first, added three more in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh to shorten the game by the 10-run rule.

♦ Wesleyan added two more runs in the fourth when Callahan led off with a walk and went to third on a pitcher's throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Callahan scored on a double by Nick Hahn and Hahn scored on another Redbird error after junior Johnathan Erickson singled.

♦ In the fifth, sophomore Tim Coonan and Scott walked and advanced to second and third on a Callahan ground. Hahn picked up his second RBI, grounding out to short to score Coonan.

♦ IWU starter Matt Conrad (1-2) took the loss on the mound, lasting just 1/3 of an inning, walking three and allowing two hits and six runs (four earned).

The Titans board the bus at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday (May 1) for a trip to Rockford College and a 4 p.m. nonconference meeting with the Regents.
