BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In a doubleheader sweep of the Carthage baseball team, the Illinois Wesleyan Titans clinched a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title Saturday afternoon at Jack Horenberger Field, celebrating "Seniors' Day" in style.
It is Illinois Wesleyan's 24th conference championship and seventh since 2001.
The No. 18-ranked Titans are 16-2 in the CCIW and 26-7 overall, while the Red Men are 8-10 in the conference and 15-18 overall. With a three-game lead in the standings, IWU needs just one conference win in next weekend's three-game series at North Park to secure the outright league title.
Second-place Augustana is 12-5 in the CCIW after splitting a pair of games with Wheaton on Saturday, losing 4-1 before winning 8-7.
Game One

Tim Coonan. Senior

Kevin Callahan singled through the right side to bring in Workman. Sophomore
Nick Hahn then provided a sacrifice fly to score Scott.
Junior

Game Two
♦ In the second game of the day, fighting off some light rain near the end, the Titans got two runs in the eighth to rally for the 4-3 win.
♦ Carthage led 2-0 in the second before the Titans scored a run. With one out, Erickson doubled to right center and came home on a single by junior
Bobby Czarnowski.
♦ The Titans tied the game with a run in the fifth on hits by junior
Jon Frericks, Coonan and Scott.
♦ IWU rallied in the last of the eighth to score the tying and winning runs. Callahan led off with a single to right and was run for by
Adam Seifert. Senior catcher
A.J. Nathan walked and the runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice by Erickson. Czarnowski and senior
Anthony Lopez hit back-to-back singles to score Seifert and Nathan.
♦ Senior lefty
