Titans Win 4-2 Game Over Carthage Friday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team opened a three-game series against Carthage with a 4-2 win on Friday (April 26) at Horenberger Field.

The No. 18-ranked Titans improved to 24-7 overall and 14-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Red Men slipped to 15-16 overall and 8-8 in the CCIW.

♦ The Titans got on the board first on a home run by Kevin Callahan, the 32nd of his career, tied for second all-time at IWU and four behind the record of 36 held by Bob Williams.

♦ IWU added one more in the third and tacked on two in the seventh. In the third, senior catcher A.J. Nathan led off with a single to right center and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior shortstop Matt Workman. Senior leftfielder Zach Scott delivered a two-out single to right center to bring in Nathan..

♦ In the seventh, Nathan again led off with a single to center field and went to second on another Workman sacrifiice bunt. With two outs, Scott collected his second RBI with a single to right center to plate Nathan and Callahan singled to left center to send Scott to third. Nick Hahn then singled to rightfield to bring home Scott.

Matt Hart improved to 4-2 with the pitching win, going eight innings and allowing one run on six hits while striking out two. Sophomore John Munyon earned his third save by working the ninth.

What's Next?
The same two teams will play a doubleheader at Horenberger Field commencing at noon on Saturday.
