WHEATON, Ill. – In the first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game of the season, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team defeated Wheaton, 4-2, at Lee Pfund Stadium Friday (March 29).
The Titans now sport a 8-4 overall record and are 1-0 in the CCIW, as the Thunder drop to 4-11 and open the conference season 0-1.
♦ Wheaton got on the scoreboard early, earning its first run in the top of the first inning when right fielder Desmond Cato crossed home base.
♦ The Thunder's Michael Kauffman put his team on the board again, 2-0, in the fourth.
♦ However, the Titans also saw some offensive action in the fourth inning, as designated hitter
Nick Hahn, who had reached on a one-out error by the leftfielder, scored an unearned run on an RBI by senior catcher
A.J. Nathan, to put bring the score to 2-1.
♦ The hitting energy rolled over into the fifth for IWU, when junior third baseman
Johnathan Erickson tripled down the right field line with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore rightfielder

Matt Hart (2-1) was credited with the win as he struck out nine and allowed 10 hits in the complete game, while Evan Rahn (1-1) suffered the loss for Wheaton.
