BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Illinois Wesleyan banged out 13 hits and got seven strong innings from sophomore starter John Munyon in a 4-1 win over No. 10-ranked Birmingham Southern on Sunday (March 10).

♦ The Titans improved to 2-1 with both wins coming against top 10 teams while the Panthers slipped to 11-6 overall.

♦ In his first career start in college, Munyon pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out six. Senior Anthony Kopp and junior John Frueh finished the game with scoreless innings.

♦ Junior third baseman Johnathan Erickson had three hits to pace IWU while four other Titans each had two hits - junior leftfielder Bobby Czarnowski, sophomore rightfielder Tim Coonan, senior first baseman Kevin Callahan and senior shortstop Matt Workman.

♦ With a 2-1 lead, IWU opened the game up with two runs in the sixth. Czarnowski, senior catcher A.J. Nathan singled and designated hitter Nick Hahn was hit by a pitch to load the bases with none out. Erickson singled home Czarnowski and sophomore second baseman Derek Idstein hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Nathan.
