BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Cold shooting (17 percent in the second half) doomed the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team in a 53-47 loss to Augustana in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason tournament at the Shirk Center on Friday (Feb. 22).
♦ The Titans record falls to 21-5 while the Vikings improved to 19-7 and will play North Central on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Shirk for the tourney title and the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. The Cardinals (23-3) were 59-50 winners over Wheaton (20-6) earlier.
♦ In a game that saw the lead change hands eight times, The Titans had their largest lead in the game at 8-2 with 16:22 to go in the first half but Augustana battled back and tiedf the game at 8-8, the first of six ties in the first half. At intermission it was 25-25.
♦ The score was tied at 37-37 with 7:50 to go before Augustana went on an 11-1 run to take a commanding 48-38 lead with 4:11 to go. The Titans could get no closer than five the rest of the way.
♦ Augustana held a 42-41 lead in rebounds for the game and each team committed 15 turnovers.
