BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Winning 12 of 13 sets, the Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team swept all four of its matches in the Barker Classic I tournament, including a pair of matches on Saturday (Sept. 8).
The Titans took a 3-1 win over Monmouth (25-18,26-28,25-18,25-21) and defeated Lincoln Christian 3-0 (25-16,26-24,25-14).
IWU's
Morgan Howard and
Erin Wachtel were named to the all-tournament team.
"The team set a goal to win this tournament and it was great to see the team fight through some challenges and execute our game plan to achieve their goal," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "We saw some really good things and hope to build on them to prepare for our conference opener on Tuesday."
In the win over Monmouth, sophomore
Maddie Greybar led the team with 13 kills while Howard added 10. Greybar also provided a team-best 19 defensive digs and senior
Stephanie Polich had 10. Wachtel had 44 set assists.
Against Lincoln Christian, Howard had 12 kills and senior
Alex Hill had nine. Greybar had nine digs and senior
Katie Rhoades added eight, while Wachtel had 36 assists and seven digs. Hill and Wachtel each had two blocks.
The Titans play at North Central in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match Tuesday.
Other members of the all-tournament team were:Chelsey Widdop of Monmouth, Alicia Carson of Lincoln Christian, Amanda Stahmann of Concordia-Wis. and Taryn Ballmann of Fontbonne.
