BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team picked up a pair of three-set wins at the Barker Classic I at the Shirk Center on Friday (Sept. 7).
The Titans improved to 3-4 overall this season as they topped Illinois College, 25-19, 25-10, 25-21 in the afternoon rounf and then downed Concordia (Wis.) at night, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16.
"Tonight our strong passing and aggressive serving allowed us to control the tempo and give us many options in our offense," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown.
Against Illinois College, the Titans hit .214 as sophomore
Kinzie Schweigert and senior
Katie Rhoades each had eight kills while senior
Alex Hill and sophomore
Morgan Howard each provided seven kills. Senior
Stephanie Polich had 12 defensive digs and sophomore
Maddie Greybar had 11 digs to go with six kills. Junior setter
Erin Wachtel led IWU with 28 assists.
In the win over Concordia, Hill led the way with nine kills while Greybar and Howard each had eight kills. Polich and Greybar each had 10 defensive digs and Wachtel made 30 assists.
On Saturday, the Titans host Monmouth at 10 a.m. and Lincoln Christian at 2 p.m. in the tourney's final day.
