CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a four-set nonconference match at the University of Chicago, 3-1, on Wednesday (Sept. 5).
The Titans fell to 1-4 this season in losing to the Maroons (now 5-1) by scores of 11-25, 18-25, 25-23, 13-25.
"We played extremely tight tonight and our passing never got into a rhythm, which made it very difficult to run our offense," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "The team needs to find a way to come together and rebound from this loss."
Three IWU sophomores each had team-highs of seven kills -
Maddie Greybar,
Kinzie Schweigert and
Cydnee Mann. Mann also provided two service aces and sophomore
Morgan Howard led the team with seven blocks, including three solo.
Junior
Erin Wachtel had 27 set assists while Greybar and senior
Stephanie Polich paced Wesleyan with 10 defensive digs each.
Illinois Wesleyan plays hosts the eight-team Barker Classic I this Friday and Saturday at the Shirk Center. The Titans entertain Illinois College at 3 p.m. and Concordia (Wis.) at 7 p.m. on Friday, then host Monmouth at 10 a.m. and Lincoln Christian at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
