BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior Tim Griffin scored a goal in the 81st minute to give Illinois Wesleyan a 2-1 win over North Central in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at Neis Field on Saturday (Sept. 29). The Titans are 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCIW.

The goal was Griffin's seond of the game and came on an assist from senior Frank Marchiori at 80:48.

The Cardinals (7-3-0, 0-1-0 CCIW) took the lead at 31:06 on a goal by Jeff Jones, his first of the year, on a free kick deflected off the goal wall.

Griffin tied the match at 1-1 at 41:50 when he scored on a header with assists going to senior John Horstman and senior Sam Peniak.

Junior Andrew Reed made two saves in goal for IWU and Kyle DeRaedt made three for the Cardinals. The Titans had a 13-7 edge in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. A total of 28 fouls, 14 for each squad, were called in the contest.

IWU plays next at Millikin on Wednesday (Oct. 3) at 4 p.m. in another CCW match.
