BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - In the Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team's first home game since early September, Washington University in St. Louis overcame the Titans, 2-1, Thursday (Sept. 20) evening at Neis Field.
In front of a crowd of 149, the No. 12 Bears jumped out of the gates fighting, as Jessica Johnson chipped from the corner of box over IWU goalie
Amanda Macuiba to score the first goal of the game at the 17:47 marker.
The second goal of the game was scored by WashUW's Anna Zambricki when she dribbled past Macuiba and shot it over her head to put the Titans down, 2-0.
Seconds later, IWU's
Arin Calamari scored with a cross to the far post, assisted by
Hannah Ketterling with 36:40 on the clock bringing the final score to 2-1.
Macuiba split the game in the box with
Zoie Samaan, with one save to two goals scored. Samaan tallied three saves.
The Titans will return to action next Thursday (Sept. 27) in Greencastle, Ind., to face DePauw at 7:30 p.m. ET.
