BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team opened its 2012 season with a 1-0 loss to Calif.-Santa Cruz in the Titan Soccer Classic at IWU's Neis Field on Saturday (Sept. 1).

The Titans had commanding leads in both shots (23-10) and shots on goal (12-6) but could not find the back of the net. Freshman Sydney Fox had three shots on goal while Tillie Bill, Ashley Montijo and Hannah Ketterling each had two.

Freshman keeper Amanda Macuiba made five saves and the match's only goal came from Sara Sadler, unassisted, at the 47:41 mark as she dribbled around the defense and chipped in a shot over Macuiba's head.

Illinois Wesleyan played without All-American senior forward Emily Hinchman, who was ill.

The Titans host Adrian at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Bulldogs were 3-1 winners over DePauw. Calif--Santa Cruz also topped DePauw, 1-0 in the second overtime on Friday.
