Titan Baseball Loses Two Games to Cardinals

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team lost a pair of conference games at North Central on Saturday (April 7), dropping game one 3-2 and losing 8-1 in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

The Titans are 15-7 overall and 5-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while North Central is 15-6 overall and 6-2 in the CCIW.

In game one, the Titans were limited to six hits as junior catcher A.J. Nathan had three hits and sophomore rightfielder Bobby Czarnowski had two hits.

Sophomore starting pitcher Matthew Conrad (1-1) took the loss, working 6 1/3 innings and allowing 10 hits while striking out one.

The Titans got eight hits in the second game with two coming from sophomore centerfielder Jon Frericks and two from junior first baseman Kevin Callahan, whose ninth inning home run provided the lone IWU tally to avoid the shutout.

Junior lefthanded starter Nick Mehn (3-2) took the loss as he faced only three hitters, walking two and allowing a single. In relief, senior Joe Sweeney was effective as he allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three in five innings.

Illinois Wesleyan plays next at Knox College in Galesburg at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 10).
