BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Despite five errors, the Illinois Wesleyan baseball team came from behind for the second straight game to beat North Park 8-6 on Sunday (April 22) and claim two of three in the crucial conference weekend series.

The Titans improved to 21-10 overall and the No. 27 Vikings fell to 24-9 while both teams are 9-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. North Central and Elmhurst are also in the four-way logjam atop the CCIW standings with 9-6 records.

The Titans scored two in the first and one in the third and fourth to lead 4-1 before North Park scored three in the fifth and two more in the seventh to get a 6-4 edge.
IWU got within one in the seventh. With one out, senior rightfielder Kevin Sullivan walked and went to second on a ground out by junior second baseman Anthony Lopez. Junior shortstop Zach Scott then doubled down the rightfield line to bring in Sullivan.

With one out in the eighth, sophomore Johnathan Erickson singled to right field and sophomore first baseman Bobby Czarnowski walked. Senior leftfielder Mark McDermott singled through the left side to bring home the tying run and Sullivan cracked a double to left to score two more.

Sophomore starter John Frueh went the first five innings, allowing six hits and only one earned run. Sophomore Jeff Johnson (2-0) was the winning hurler as he pitched three innings, allowed two hits, two unearned runs and struck out two. Junior Anthony Kopp got his first save of the year as he pitched a scoreless ninth.

Illinois Wesleyan hosts No. 24-ranked Washington U. on Tuesday night at 6:30.
