KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team slipped to 18-9 overall and 7-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after a 15-5 loss at Carthage in Kenosha, Wis., on Sunday (April 15).
Carthage improved to 11-12 overall , 5-7 CCIW.
On Sunday, Illinois Wesleyan scored a run in the first inning when junior shortstop
Zach Scott walked, advanced to second on a bunt by senior leftfielder
Mark McDermott and scored on a single by sophomore designated hitter
Johnathan Erickson. Carthage took a 3-1 lead in the third but a two-run home run to rightfield by junior first baseman
Kevin Callahan tied the game, 3-3, in the fourth.
The Red Men scored three in the fifth and broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning to lead 13-3.
Callahan's second home run of the game, also a two-run shot, made it 13-5 in the top of the seventh but Carthage plated two in the bottom of the seventh to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Carthage pounded out 17 hits off four Titan pitchers and senior starter
Joe Sweeney (5-2) took the loss as he allowed seven hits and six runs on five walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Illinois Wesleyan plays 13-12 Benedictine at 6 p.m. Wednesday (April 18) at Horenberger Field.
