IWU Baseball Improves to 7-2 With Win Over Cougars

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Illinois Wesleyan senior righthander Joe Sweeney (3-0) scattered 10 hits and struck out five in eight innings while getting plenty of offensive support in an 11-2 win over Concordia Chicago on Sunday (March 18) at Sycamore Field in Terre Haute, Ind.

The win boosts the Titans' record to 7-2 while the Cougars fall to 9-2.

The Titans' offense continued to impress in the early season, banging out 12 hits today. Senior Mark McDermott had three hits with two doubles and a run batted in and junior designated hitter Anthony Lopez contributed three RBI.

Junior first baseman Kevin Callahan, sophomore centerfielder Jon Frericks and sophomore third baseman Johnathan Erickson each had two hits with Frericks and junior second baseman Matt Workman hitting doubles.

IWU's defense also played a role in the win, turning four double plays.

The Titans and Cougars will get to know each other even better next weekend when they play a three-game set at Horenberger Field with a Saturday (March 24) doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and a Sunday single game at 1 p.m.
