IWU Baseball Splits Games in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan baseball team split a pair of games at Sycamore Field in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday (March 17), beating Alma 11-2 after a 7-3 loss to Rose-Hulman.

IWU (6-2) will play Concordia Chicago at noon Sunday as part of the Rose-Hulman sponsored tournament.

IWU's offense delivered 14 hits in the win over Alma (2-4) as sophomore third baseman Johnathan Erickson had three hits with a double and a triple.
Getting two hits for IWU were junior shortstop Zach Scott, junior first baseman Kevin Callahan, senior leftfielder Mark McDermott, sophomore centerfielder Jon Frericks and sophomore designated hitter Bobby Czarnowski.

Matt Hart (1-0) was the Illinois Wesleyan winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing three hits and one unearned run with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Engineers improved to 8-3 as they put up two runs in the first and two in the third to grab a 4-0 lead.
IWU countered with three runs in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Scott doubled and got sent home on a single by Frericks. After Frericks stole second, Callahan cracked a two-run homer.
Scott, Erickson and junior catcher A.J. Nathan all had two hits for IWU.

Junior lefty Nick Mehn (2-1) pitched four innings and allowed six runs, all earned, on 10 hits with two walks. Freshman Craig Berberich pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on six hits. There were no strikeouts by either team in the nine-inning game.
