Titan Bats Support Mehn in 10-5 Win at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - Illinois Wesleyan junior Nick Mehn pitched six strong innings and sophomores Johnathan Erickson and Jon Frericks each had three hits of the 13-hit attack as the Titans topped Millsaps 10-5 at Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday (March 10).

The Titans improved to 3-0 while Millsaps slipped to 10-6.

The lefthanded Mehn (2-0) allowed three hits and struck out six while walking five.

Millsaps scored three times in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead before the Titans put up four in the top of the sixth. Senior Kevin Sullivan singled and Erickson walked before junior catcher AJ Nathan had a single to bring home Sullivan. After freshman second baseman Matt Workman reached on a fielder's choice, junior shortstop Zach Scott walked to load the bases. Frericks then doubled down the leftfield line to clear the bases and put IWU on top 5-3.

The Titans took a 9-3 lead by putting up four more in the eighth on hits by Scott and Frericks, walks by seniors Kevin Callahan and Mark McDermott and a three-run double by Erickson.

Illinois Wesleyan continues its spring trip with a single game at Mississippi College on Monday (March 12) at 6 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.
