IWU Men Breeze to 84-63 Victory Over North Park

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team coasted to an 84-63 win over visiting North Park on Saturday (Feb. 4) and improved to 16-5 overall and 7-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Illinois Wesleyan scored the first 10 points of the game and led by 13 at 19-6 with 12:02 to go in the half after a 3-pointer by Stephen Rudnicki before the Vikings cut into the lead with 10 straight points to leave IWU up 19-16. But the Titans scored the next nine points, led 28-16 with 6:05 to go in the half and led by 10 at the break, 38-28.

Illinois Wesleyan were 32 of 61 (.525) from the field and 10 of 20 in 3-pointers while knocking in 10 of 16 free throws.

IWU limited North Park to only a .362 field goal percentage (21 of 58). The Vikings actually shot better from beyond the 3-point arc at .385 (10 of 26) than overall and made 11 of their 17 free throw tries.

Sophomore Victor Davis led the Titans with 17 points while senior Jordan Zimmer added 16. Junior Kevin Reed had 10 points and a game-high 9 rebounds as the Titans corralled 46 boards to 27 for the Vikings (5-16, 1-9 CCIW).

Roshawn Russell stroked in 21 for North Park while Mark Holmes added 13 on a tough 4 of 17 shooting night. The Vikings were guilty of only 11 turnovers compared to 17 for IWU.

The Titans entertain CCIW first place North Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 7). The Cardinals are 15-6 overall and 9-1 in the league after escaping with a 43-41 home court win over Augustana on Saturday in a game that had seven lead changes, seven ties and in which no team led by more than six.
