CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – In a back and forth battle, the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball team was able to come through near the end of the game against Wabash College, 62-56, on Little Giant turf Saturday (Nov. 24) afternoon.
The Titans now improve their undefeated streak to four, while Wabash drops to 2-1.
Brady Zimmer and
Kevin Reed led IWU on offense with 12 points each. Reed also had a team high of 10 rebounds.
Victor Davis tallied 10 points with nine boards.
The first half, Wabash and IWU matched basket to basket, with the lead only extending to four by the Titans with 7:23 on the clock after Davis knocked down a three pointer to put them up 19-15.
The Titans and Little Giants closed the first half with just a one-point difference, 29-28, Wabash's favor.
IWU, however, jumped out to a quick lead in the second half, going on a 6-0 run, 34-29, in the first five minutes of play. The Little Giants did not let the Titans trail far, though, tying up the game at the 9:12 marker when Marcus Kammrath hit a jumper to bring the score to 41-41.
The game remained even until the Titans'
Dylan Overstreet, Zimmer, and Reed combined to help them gain a five-point lead, 53-48, with just over three minutes on the clock.
IWU held onto the lead until the buzzer, hitting vital free throws at the end by Overstreet, Zimmer, and
Andrew Ziemnik.
The Titans will return to the court Tuesday (Nov. 27) against Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Shirk Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
