BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team win for the fourth straight time and improved to 13-9 overall as it took a five-set match against Lincoln Christian at the Barker Classic II on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Shirk Center.
The Titans won by scores of 21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 16-14.
IWU senior
Alex Hill and sophomore
Morgan Howard were named to the all-tournament team. They were joined by Laura Kluk and Jenae Harner of North Central, Ruthie Wheelock of Culver Stockton and Krystine Schnautz of Lincoln Christian University.
Hill had 22 kills with four blocks and Howard had 12 kills with six blocks. Hill's 22 kills is tied for sixth most in an IWU match since 2003 and the third most in a five-set match.
Sophomore
Maddie Greybar contributed 10 kills with 15 defensive digs.
Junior
Erin Wachtel had 52 set assists and senior
Stephanie Polich made a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore
Cydnee Mann also had six total blocks.
"Lincoln Christian challenged and countered our every move and every set came down to who made the least amount of errors," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "I was proud of our team and how we continue to push through tough situations. I'm hoping we can continue this run into Wednesday's conference match."
Illinois Wesleyan will play a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at Wheaton College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 10).
