ELMHURST, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team earned its 10
th win of the season against Elmhurst, 2-1, putting the Titans two games ahead of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin competition in league standings.
In the Titans (10-1, 3-0), Bluejays (7-6, 0-2) matchup in Elmhurst, Ill., Saturday (Oct. 6) evening, Elmhurst opened with the lead with a goal from Mikey Emig 13:08 into play with a breakaway fake out.
IWU trailed the home team heading into halftime, 0-1, but jumped out the gates fighting as
Declan Geraghty headed the ball off a free kick from
Danny Kenny with 45:32 on the clock.
With the score set at 1-1,
Tim Griffin took advantage of a deflected ball and knocked it in to put the Titans ahead 2-1 at the 67:28 marker, also giving IWU the victory.
Tim Hegwood played all 90 minutes in the goal, notching three saves. The Bluejays' John Reglin had four saves throughout the entire game.
The Titans will head into their game against non-conference foe University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Wednesday (Oct. 10) undefeated in the CCIW.
