Carthage Fights Out IWU Men's Soccer in Overtime

KENOSHA, Wis. - In an even battle for the first 90 minutes, the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team was unable to hold on, as Carthage knocked off the Titans just over six minutes into overtime, 1-0, Saturday (Oct. 27) at Art Keller Field.

IWU drops to 11-5 and 4-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for a fourth place standing. The Red Men improve to 15-11 and also sport a 4-3 CCIW record to finish in a tie with the Titans in third place.

The Titans slipped to the No. 4 seed in the conference and will play at Wheaton in the semifinals of the CCIW tournament at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 31). No. 2 seed North Park will host Carthage on Wednesday in the other semifinal.

IWU and Carthage matched each other in the first two halves of regulation, concluding the game 0-0 before heading into overtime.

However, at the 96:28 marker, the Red Men were able to see action in the net as Stephen Korosis successfully shot the ball past IWU goalie Andrew Reed to wrap up the game and seal the 1-0 victory.

Reed finished the game with four saves to 12 shots faced, while Carthage goal keeper Milan Tijanic had four saves to nine shots faced.
