BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team lost a closely-contested match in five sets to Millikin at the Shirk Center on "Seniors' Night" on Wednesday (Oct. 24).

The Titans lost by scores of 26-28, 25-20, 19-25, 30-28, 10-15 and are now 15-13 this season. IWU finished the regular season phase of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and will play at Millikin next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the conference tournament play-in round.

The Big Blue improved to 22-9 overall and finished 4-3 in the CCIW to wrap up the No. 4 seed.

"Once again we started off slow but turned it into a hard fought match," said IWU head coach Kim Nelson-Brown. "Unfortunately in the fifth set, Millikin pushed us and were able to come up with some big swings at the end. We are looking forward to having another opportunity at them next Tuesday."

Illinois Wesleyan senior Alex Hill set an IWU single match record with 27 kills, topping the old mark of 26 set by Beth Crowley against St. Norbert on Oct. 4, 2003, and tied by Katie Butson against Elmhurst on Oct. 18, 2007. Hill hit .389 in the match, making 54 attack attempts.

Sophomores Morgan Howard and Kinzie Schweigert each had 15 kills and sophomore Maddie Greybar added 10.

Hill and Howard each had three blocks. Junior Erin Wachtel provided 61 set assists and senior libero Stephanie Polich led the Titans in digs with 21. Greybar had 15 digs, Schweigert and Wachtel had 11 and senior Katie Rhoades had 10 digs.

Millikin's Audrey Krajec had 32 kills and hit .426 in the win.

The Titans host the seven-team Barker Classic III tournament this weekend. On Friday IWU will play Anderson at 3 p.m. and U. of Dallas at 7 p.m. At 10 a.m. Saturday the Titans play Webster and at 2 p.m IWU meets Central (Iowa).
