ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team fought through regulation time and one overtime period, only to lose a 2-1 decision to Augustana in the second extra period on Sunday (Oct. 14) in Rock Island, Ill.
The Titans are 6-7-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings improved to 11-3-0 overall 4-0-0 in the CCIW. The match was postponed from Saturday night due to an inclement weather forecast in the Quad Cities area.
Illinois Wesleyan got on the board first at the 19:24 mark when junior
Hannah Ketterling scored her second goal of the season.
At 38:59, the Vikings tied the match at 1-1 when Jessica Kras scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Taylor Moesle.
After a scoreless second period and first 10-minute overtime, Augustana's Somer Druszkowski scored at the 103:43 mark on an assist from Kelly Farell. It was Druszkowski's fourth goal of the year.
The Titans had 16 shots compared to 11 for Augustana. Eight of Augie's shots were on goal compared to seven for IWU.
Illinois Wesleyan junior goalkeeper
Zoie Samaan made six saves and Meredith Chew made five for the Vikings.
The Titans are at home for their next three matches, beginning with a 5 p.m. contest next Saturday (Oct. 20) against No. 14-nationally ranked Wheaton at Neis Field.
