IWU Swim Teams Falter at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost dual meets at DePauw University on Saturday (Jan. 21). The men were beaten 207-81 and the women lost by a 189-108 score.

Senior Angela Lugg was a three-time winner for the women's team, taking first in the 500 freestyle (5:15.40), the 50 freestyle (25.72 seconds) and the 200 freestyle (1:57.37).

Senior Andrea Peterson was a double individual event winner, claiming the 100 backstroke (1:00.86) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.25) while junior Katie McHugh got first place in the 200 butterfly (2:15.14).

Peterson and McHugh also swam legs on the victorious 200 medley relay team, along with sophomore Lizzie Egan and freshman Natalie Statham. The team time was 1:52.21.

Senior Mikey Firth was a winner in two swimming events and freshman Nathan Douglas won both diving events.

Firth won the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.38 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 1:55.84.

Douglas took the 1-meter diving with 165.50 points and the 3-meter diving with 161.45 points.

Marcus Duval won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:59.08.

The men's team will swim against Wabash in a dual meet at 1 p.m. next Saturday (Jan. 28) at IWU's Fort Natatorium and both the men's and women's teams will compete against North Central and Wheaton in a triangular at Wheaton on Feb. 4.
