CCIW Season Opens With Win for IWU Women Soccer

CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior Molly O'Brien had her second straight two-goal match and sophomore Zoie Samaan had the shutout as the goalkeeper as the No. 10-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team opened its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season with a 5-0 win at North Park.

The Titans are 7-1-0 overall and North Park fell to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.

Sophomores Kristina Dolak and Tillie Bill and junior Emily Hinchman each had one goal in the victory over the Vikings.

Sophomore Hannah Ketterling assisted on Dolak's goal, which came at 2:34 before O'Brien's first goal, unassisted, at 14:01. Hinchman's goal, also unassisted, put the Titans ahead 3-0 at the 23:40 mark.

O'Brien's second goal came on a penalty kick at 58:02 and Bill had the team's last goal on an assist from Hinchman at 61:55.

Samaan made six saves in the win. IWU outshot the Vikings, 17-9, and had eight shots on goal.

Illinois Wesleyan next plays on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at No. 14-ranked Washington U. in St. Louis. With a 3-1 win in 2010, IWU leads the series against Washington U., 5-4-4 as 12 of the 13 matches have been decided by one goal or fewer.
