Box Score 2 GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan volleyball team defeated Birmingham Southern before losing to Rose-Hulman at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind., on Friday, Sept. 16. With the split, IWU has an overall record of 7-5.
The Titans defeated Birmingham Southern in four sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-27, 25-16, before losing to Rose-Hulman in five sets, 22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23, 10-15.
"Even though we lost the second match tonight, I was proud of the team in how they fought back in sets three and four," said IWU head coach
Kim Nelson-Brown. "The players took what we did during the week and applied it to the matches today. We are definitely taking steps in the right direction."
Freshman
Maddie Greybar led IWU with 12 kills against Birmingham Southern while sophomore
Stephanie Buhrow and junior
Alex Hill each added 10 kills. Greybar had 12 defensive digs and Hill led IWU with three total blocks.
Sophomore
Sarah Blum had a team-high 16 digs and sophomore
Erin Wachtel had 37 set assists.
In the match against Rose-Hulman, freshman
Kinzie Schweigert, Greybar and Buhrow all had 14 kills each and Hill had 10 kills and a team high seven blocks.
Wachtel contributed 57 set assists and Blum had 19 digs while Greybar added 13 digs.
The Titans return to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Shirk Center against North Central at 7 p.m.
