SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team, ranked No. 9 in the weekly NSCAA Division III national poll, suffered its first loss of the season, losing 1-0 in overtime at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio, on Sunday, Sept. 11.
The Tigers (2-2-0) got a goal from Kailey Streibel on a breakaway goal at the 6:40 mark of the overtime period.
Illinois Wesleyan (now 3-1-0) outshot the Tigers, 22-9, and had six shots on goal compared to five for Wittenberg. Junior
Emily Hinchman had four shots, including two on goal, to lead IWU in those categories. Freshman
Brie Siebert also had two shots on goal.
Titan sophomore keeper
Renata Butikas made four saves with Wittenberg keeper Cassie Lythjohan made six saves in the shutout.
Illinois Wesleyan returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 against Wisconsin-Whitewater at Neis Field.
