IWU Loses Non-League Game to Concordia Chicago

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan offense was limited to seven hits and one run in a 3-1 non-conference loss to Concordia Chicago on Monday, May 9 at Horenberger Field.

Illinois Wesleyan is 25-14 overall while Concordia Chicago improved to 32-7.

The Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth when junior leftfielder Mark McDermott led off with a walk and senior third baseman drove him home with a double to left. The Cougars scored their three runs in the top of the eighth.

Freshman starting pitcher Philip Kerber fared well in his five shutout innings, allowing six hits and striking out two while walking one. Freshman Ryan Hamm (0-1) was tagged with the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit with three walks. Freshman John Freuh struck out three and walked one as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.

Illinois Wesleyan will play North Central at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, in the first game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament at Horenberger Field. Go here for the complete schedule.
