BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Four home runs powered the Illinois Wesleyan softball team to a 9-4 win over Calvin in game one of the day at the IWU Tournament on Saturday, April 9. The Titans (15-5 overall) lost a 5-4 decision in eight innings to Washington U. in their second game of the day.

Against Calvin, sophomore shortstop Emma Clark hit two homers while freshman rightfielder Sara Daley and sophomore leftfielder Jaci Forsythe each added one in the power barrage.

IWU's winning pitcher, freshman lefthander Molly McCready, got her record up to 3-2 as she pitched the complete game, scattering 10 hits and striking out eight. Five of those Knight hits came in the seventh inning, when they scored two runs.

For Clark, who had five runs batted in with one of the home runs being a grand slam, she has nine home runs this season, one away from tying the record set by Valerie Hackett in 2007. Sara Powers also had nine home runs in 2001.

Daley had a two-run homer and three RBI in the game.

In the Washington U. game, Alyssa Abramoski got the Bears (now 22-7-1) ahead 1-0 with a home run off Titans starter Alyssa Vorel in the top of the first inning.

Illinois Wesleyan, who had seven hits in the game, tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Vorel but the Bears went ahead 2-1 with a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Maggie Mullen. An RBI single by IWU freshman Kaity Crane in the bottom half of the sixth tied the game at 2-2.

The Bears scored three runs on two hits in the top of the eighth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Illinois Wesleyan scored twice in the eighth and trailed 5-4 with one out before junior third baseman Kayla Mahoney struck out and Vorel popped out to the second baseman.

Vorel (4-1) scattered seven hits in the complete game and struck out six while walking only one.
Claire Voris (10-3) pitched two innings in relief to pick up the victory as she allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out two.
