Titans Edge Augustana, 2-1, in CCIW Baseball

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior Jason Pankau struck out 10 as the No. 23-ranked Illinois Wesleyan baseball team claimed a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Augustana at Horenberger Field on Wednesday, April 13. The Titans improved to 15-7 overall and 7-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Vikings, who outhit the Titans 7-4, fell to 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

The Titans scored a run in the second on a lead-off home run by sophomore catcher A.J. Nathan and added their second run in the fourth. Sophomore first baseman Kevin Callahan singled to rightfield and went to second on a wild pitch. After two strikeouts, freshman Jonathan Erickson singled through the right side to score Callahan.

The Vikings scored their only run on four hits in the seventh. T.J. O'Donnell and Pat Wilson singled ahead of another single by Jared McIntosh that scored O'Donnell. When Kevin Serna reached on an infield single, the Vikings had the bases loaded with one out, but Pankau struck out pinch-hitter Niko Capodice and lead-off hitter Kurt Schmidt to end the threat.

IWU plays a doubleheader at North Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a single game against the Vikings in Chicago at noon on Sunday.
